The moth cannot find a place to land and therefore does not lay any eggs. Where there are no eggs, no caterpillars emerge. You do not need to spray, pick them off, or monitor the plant.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\n\u003ch3\u003eWhat length do you need?\u003c\/h3\u003e\n\n\u003cp\u003eThe net is sold by the meter and is 42 centimeters wide. It is therefore not a ready-made cover, but a strip that you lay over the plant. For anything wider than a narrow column, place several strips side by side and connect them with cable ties until the boxwood is completely enclosed. You can cut it to size with standard household scissors.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\n\u003cp\u003eHere is how to calculate what you need. Measure the diameter at the widest point and the height of the plant. Diameter times height times 3.14 gives you the area that needs to be covered. Divide this area by 0.42 and add about ten percent for overlap. The result is the number of running meters you need.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\n\u003cp\u003eAn example: a sphere with a diameter of 60 centimeters and a height of 60 centimeters. 0.60 times 0.60 times 3.14 is 1.13 square meters; divided by 0.42, that is 2.7 meters, so with overlap, about 3 meters.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\n\u003cp\u003eFor a hedge, measure the length, height, and width. Length times the sum of twice the height plus the width gives you the area; then proceed with the calculation in the same way.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\n\u003cp\u003eFor large solitary plants, the required length quickly adds up to double digits. That is faster than having to order twice.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\n\u003ch3\u003eWhen should you apply the net?\u003c\/h3\u003e\n\n\u003cp\u003eThe box tree moth flies in several generations per year – usually starting in April and again in mid to late summer. The net should be on the plant before the moths are active. If you order in the middle of the season, it still helps: every generation that is prevented from laying eggs is one generation less.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\n\u003cp\u003eIf you want to prune first, do so by the end of September at the latest. Pruning later stimulates new growth, and these fresh shoots will not harden sufficiently before winter.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\n\u003cp\u003eImportant: If there are already caterpillars in the boxwood, remove them first. The net keeps new moths out, but it does not eliminate insects that are already inside.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\n\u003ch3\u003eWhy no pesticides?\u003c\/h3\u003e\n\n\u003cp\u003eA net is equally effective every year. It is not washed away by rain, does not need reapplication at the right larval stage, and does not harm beneficial insects you want in your garden. For beds next to vegetables or areas where children and dogs play, this is the more peaceful approach.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\n\u003ch3\u003eMaterial and durability\u003c\/h3\u003e\n\n\u003cp\u003eThe fabric is UV-resistant and can withstand several seasons outdoors. It is elastic and adapts to spheres, pyramids, cones, and hedges. The net can remain on the plant throughout autumn and winter.
