Krinner Schraubfundamente beim Eindrehen auf einem Grundstück

Carport and terrace without a concrete foundation: how a screw foundation works

A carport, a terrace or a pergola only stands as well as its foundation. Traditionally, that means digging holes, mixing concrete, setting formwork and then waiting until everything has cured. There is another way: with a screw foundation.

What is a screw foundation?

A screw foundation is a hot-dip galvanised steel tube with a thread that is screwed vertically into the ground like a large screw. Only the head with the flange remains above ground, on which the post will later sit. There is no excavation, no concrete mixing and no curing time: the foundation can bear loads immediately. And if you ever move the carport, it can be screwed out again without leaving any residue.

Krinner F series screw foundation with height-adjustable post support

Which screw foundation for carport, terrace and pergola?

The Krinner F series is made for posts and supports. Its flange with slotted holes takes a post support directly, so you can still align the post exactly after screwing it in. The 76-R version comes in four lengths for standard posts of carports, terraces and fences; the 140-P version is intended for heavy supports and bearings.

The right post support

  • Easy plug-in system: the cleanest look for visible supports
  • Flat: when the post is screwed on directly
  • M24 threaded pin: for posts with an embedded threaded sleeve
  • Vario PS 150: for screwing directly to the squared timber

All post supports are height-adjustable. With the F series, you select it directly as a variant.

What you should look out for

How much a screw foundation can bear depends on the ground. The guide values for the compressive load are listed for each version. For load-bearing structures such as a carport, we recommend specialist planning that takes into account the ground, wind and snow loads. A suitable installation tool or installation machine is needed to screw it in.

Our own experience

Our tiny houses in Wasserburg am Inn stand on Krinner screw foundations. During installation, the trees and flower beds all around remained in place, and there is now no concrete foundation in the garden.
