Three factors determine the weight

The canopy area. The larger the canopy, the more surface area it offers to the wind.

The design. A center-pole parasol pushes straight down. A cantilever or side-arm parasol hangs from the side of the mast and creates leverage – it requires significantly more counterweight.

The location. The requirements in an enclosed courtyard are different from those in an open meadow or on a slope. The weight and suitable pole diameter are listed for every item.

Which solution goes where

Base plates made of concrete, steel, or granite stand freely on the patio and can be moved. This is the flexible solution for paving, wooden decks, and roof terraces. Weishäupl offers them in square and round shapes, with a specific design for cantilever parasols.

Slab stands from CARAVITA – Boston, Dublin, Monaco, Genf, Oslo, and Big Ben – hold concrete slabs and disappear visually under a cover. They are the standard choice for catering and larger parasols because they can be moved with rollers.

Ground sockets are set in concrete and disappear into the ground. Nothing stands in the way, and nothing needs to be cleared away in winter – however, the location is fixed. They are available in stainless steel and galvanized versions, as well as models matching the CARAVITA Amalfi, Europa, Pianura, and Big Ben.

Fillable parasol stands of the KS series (Rimini, Paris, Rom, Turin, Verona) are filled with concrete on-site – inexpensive and heavy, but not easily moved once set.

Check the pole diameter

The stand and mast must fit together. The mast diameter is listed on the product page of the parasol, and the compatible diameter is listed for the stand. If there is a difference, reducer inserts can compensate for it.

Can I use a stand from a hardware store?
Technically yes, if the weight and pole diameter are correct. For large and cantilever parasols, we advise against it – there is too much at stake.

Must the ground socket be installed at a frost-free depth?
Yes, the foundation must be at a frost-free depth, otherwise, it will heave in winter. Dimensions and recommendations are provided for each respective socket.

Can the stand stay outside in winter?
Concrete, granite, and stainless steel can. Steel plates and covers last longer if they are kept dry or covered.
