Ground sleeve stainless steel & galvanized

Ground sleeve for concreting, in two materials: stainless steel with 40, 50, 54, 62 and 64 mm inner diameter for center-pole parasols, optional with anti-theft protection – and galvanized steel in four versions for cantilever and telescopic parasols.

Stainless steel or galvanized steel?

• Stainless steel, Ø 40 to 64 mm: for center-pole parasols – Klassiker, Teak, Professional, Trend, Alu, Basic and Pagode. Rustproof throughout the material, even if the surface is scratched. The choice for visible locations, for the catering industry and for front gardens.
• Galvanized steel, four versions: the mount intended by Weishäupl for cantilever and telescopic parasols. The corrosion protection lies in the zinc layer that permanently covers the steel; it must not be damaged by a wire brush or sharp tools. In terms of price, it is noticeably lower than stainless steel.

The two materials are not interchangeable. Cantilever and telescopic parasols transfer their load laterally into the ground via the boom and therefore require their own mount as well as a larger dimensioned foundation.

Which sleeve fits which parasol?

Weishäupl approves each ground sleeve for specific parasol sizes and models. Look for your parasol in the following assignment – the matching diameter follows from this.

Note on Ø 400 Trend: Weishäupl's documents list two different values for this size – the ground sleeve overview 54 mm, the base plate overview 62 mm. We will clarify the value directly with the manufacturer before you order. Please send us a quick note before you order for this parasol size.

Galvanized steel for cantilever and telescopic parasols:

If you select "galvanized steel" as the material, you have the following four versions to choose from:

• Cantilever parasol Ø 350 and 300 × 300, frame grey → item no. DHFS3000
• Cantilever parasol 300 × 300, frame black → item no. DHFS3S00
• Cantilever parasol 400 × 400, frame grey → item no. DHFS4400
• Telescopic parasol Ø 500 and 400 × 400 → item no. DHAT2000, including anti-theft protection

Anti-theft protection: suitable for the Ø 40 mm sleeve (item no. DS430000) as well as for the Ø 50 to Ø 64 mm sleeves (item no. DS530000). Useful for publicly accessible locations, in the catering industry and in front gardens. It is already included with the galvanized telescopic version DHAT2000.

Sleeve or plate: The sleeve is the right choice for a fixed location, especially on lawns where a placed plate would sink, as well as on concrete and paved areas with a cutout. On an existing wooden deck, on a balcony or in changing locations, a base plate is more practical – for cantilever and telescopic parasols, you can find them under Cantilever base plate.

Installation: The sleeve is placed vertically into a frost-free concrete foundation, with the edge flush with the surface. A crookedly installed sleeve will make the entire parasol stand visibly tilted. For cantilever and telescopic parasols, the foundation must be dimensioned significantly larger than for a center-pole parasol because the boom transfers the load laterally. Details can be found in the installation instructions under Downloads; we are happy to advise you on the foundation size.

Manufacturer's note from Weishäupl: "We do not recommend cantilever parasols for use in wind-exposed locations." A concreted-in sleeve does not change this – it holds the base, not the parasol in a storm.

The ground sleeve is the most unspectacular item in our entire range – and the one I most often say: think about it now, not next year. In the structural phase, it costs almost nothing in terms of effort. Once the patio has been paved, it becomes a core drilling job.

I carry it because it is the only solution where nothing gets in the way. No plate to trip over, no edge for the mower to get stuck on, no need to put it away in the autumn. On lawns, it is the only alternative anyway – a plate will sink in and be crooked after two summers.

I have added the four galvanized versions for cantilever and telescopic umbrellas because no one else is thinking about them. Anyone buying a cantilever umbrella thinks about fabric, color, and size – almost no one thinks about what happens under the paving in time. Galvanized instead of stainless steel is not cutting corners here: the sleeve sits in the concrete, the zinc layer protects it permanently, and you pay significantly less than for stainless steel. I use stainless steel where the edge remains visible and daily scratches are part of the deal.

Here in Wasserburg am Inn, we have been working with sun protection for three generations. I am a master shutter and sun protection technician – as a woman, one is a rarity in this trade, but you learn very precisely what wind does to a poorly anchored umbrella. If you are unsure whether a sleeve will work for you at all: send me a photo, and I will tell you honestly whether the effort is worth it.

Both versions are low-maintenance – once set in concrete, you hardly need to worry about them again. These points apply to every ground sleeve:

• Keep the inside of the sleeve free of leaves, sand, and dirt. A clean interior ensures that the pole fits snugly and can be pulled out again in autumn.
• Frost protection: If the umbrella is removed in winter, remove any standing water from the sleeve and cover it. Otherwise, freezing water will cause the paving around the sleeve to crack. A lid or a piece of foil with a rubber band is sufficient – this also keeps leaves and small animals out.
• Anti-theft device: check the mechanism once a year and apply a drop of oil if necessary.

Additionally for stainless steel:

• Stainless steel does not rust. Brown spots on the edge are surface rust from external sources – brake dust, iron particles from irrigation water. Wipe off with a damp cloth, never use steel wool or a wire brush, as these introduce new iron particles.
• Do not use chlorine-based cleaners – chlorine is the only substance that truly damages stainless steel in the garden.

Additionally for galvanized steel:

• Do not damage the zinc layer: no wire brushes, no sandpaper, no sharp tools inside the sleeve. Where the zinc layer is damaged, the steel will begin to rust.
• Do not use acidic or chlorine-based cleaners. Clear water and a soft brush are sufficient.
• White zinc oxide streaks (white rust) are normal in the first few months and are purely visual. Simply wash them off, do not sand them down.

All ground sleeves – both stainless steel and galvanized steel – are sent as a parcel. They are light enough that a freight forwarder is not required.

Please order in good time before paving or concreting. Subsequent installation is significantly more laborious – it would then require core drilling. If you have an appointment scheduled with a landscaper or paver, let us know and we will coordinate the delivery accordingly.
