Renson Camargue Lamellendach über einer Terrasse

Louvered roof or patio cover – what is the difference?

Both provide cover for the terrace. The difference lies in whether you can control the roof or if it always functions the same way.

The louvered roof

With Renson's Camargue, rotating aluminum louvers are integrated into the roof. When fully open, the sun shines through; when closed, the roof is watertight; when half-open, you get shade while still allowing for airflow. When the louvers are closed, water runs into the frame and drains through the posts – you won't see any gutters. The Camargue Skye features the same technology in an extra-sleek design.

The fixed roof

The Algarve and Algarve Lite have a fixed roof. They are the choice if you are primarily looking for reliable rain protection and the terrace already receives plenty of sun. The Lapure is the minimalist version for clean architectural lines.

Why this changes how you use it

A fixed roof blocks out the little light that would otherwise enter through the windows behind it during the winter. A louvered roof can be opened – in November, that is the difference between a dark room and a bright one. Conversely, a fixed roof is more affordable and features less technology.

What you can add

Side screens block out the low-hanging evening sun and wind while providing privacy from neighboring properties. Glass sliding panels turn the terrace into an enclosed room. LED lighting can be placed in the beams, and radiant heaters can be integrated. Important: All of this must be planned from the start, as cables and mounting points are concealed within the frame.

What needs to be clarified beforehand

A louvered roof is a structure with significant weight. It requires a foundation, and depending on its size, distance from property lines, and local municipal regulations, it may require a building permit. Whether freestanding or attached to the house affects the structural engineering. This is why we visit for measurements before a quote is prepared.
