Determining the correct awning size

A cassette awning is custom-made for you. Therefore, it is worth spending ten minutes on the terrace with a tape measure before ordering. These four measurements are decisive.

1. The width

This refers to the frame width, i.e., the width of the cassette. The Leiner FINO and CENTO are available in widths from 200 to 650 cm. Measure the wall area where the awning is to be mounted and check whether windows, downpipes, or lamps are in the way on the left and right.

Important: The fabric is narrower than the frame. For FINO and CENTO, the following applies: fabric width = frame width minus 23 cm (13 cm on the drive side, 10 cm on the bearing side). If you want to shade a specific area, calculate upwards from the desired shade width.

2. The projection

The projection is the distance the awning extends outwards from the wall. Available from 150 to 350 cm, depending on the width. A projection of 350 cm is only possible with a motor drive.

The shaded area is calculated as width multiplied by projection. An awning with a width of 450 cm and a projection of 300 cm therefore covers 13.5 m².

3. The pitch

The awning does not extend horizontally, but at a slight angle, so that rain runs off and the sun is also blocked in the afternoon. The maximum pitch is 40° for standard and radio motors and 35° for crank drives. The steeper the pitch, the lower the front edge hangs – therefore, also measure the clearance height under the awning.

4. Installation in a niche

If the awning is located between two walls, plan for a gap of about 6 cm per side for the pitch adjustment.

The summary

Measure the frame width, subtract 23 cm for the fabric width, choose the projection according to the desired shade depth, and check the clearance height. With these measurements, you can configure your awning directly in the shop.
