Mirrors in the garden: more depth in a small space

Everyone does it indoors: a mirror opposite a window makes a room look twice as big. Outdoors, hardly anyone thinks of it – even though it works just the same there.

What a mirror does in the garden

Hung on a wall or fence, a mirror visually adds a second layer of depth to the garden. A narrow courtyard gets an extension; a dead end framed by hedges looks like a passageway. Furthermore, it brings light into dark corners where nothing wants to grow.

Why a standard mirror won't withstand the conditions

With an indoor mirror, moisture seeps behind the reflective layer, the edges turn blind, and the frame swells. The outdoor mirrors from Deknudt Mirrors are built for this: the mirror surface is specially treated, and the glass is protected within a slim aluminum frame.

Where it belongs

On a wall or fence, ideally not directly in the midday sun. You should check two things: what is reflected? A mirror that doubles the sight of your trash cans helps no one. And will the reflected sun eventually glare into a window or onto your seating area?

Birds

A large mirror in the garden can become a trap for birds. Therefore, it is better to hang it on a wall with greenery in front of it, or in a location where there is no clear flight path.

Mounting

The models come with the intended suspension hardware. Wall plugs and screws depend on your specific wall and are not included. For larger formats and exterior walls, it is worth having a professional take a look.
