Our tiny houses stand on screw foundations – here is how the installation went

In August the time had come: the foundations for the tiny houses were set on our property in Wasserburg-Neudeck. No excavation, no concrete mixer, no weeks of drying time – but Krinner screw foundations, which are screwed directly into the ground with an installation machine.

How the installation works

The machine moves across the site on tracks, the foundation is clamped in and screwed vertically into the ground like a large screw. All that remains above ground is the head with the flange plate on which the house will later rest. The site stays largely as it was – a big point for us, because the trees and flower beds all around were to remain in place.

What screw foundations are suitable for

Not just for houses. Typical applications are terraces, garden houses and conservatories, fences and privacy screens, poles and signs – and sun and weather protection, for example a large parasol that needs to stand firmly and securely.

Which foundation fits

That depends on the ground and on what is to stand on it: weight, wind and snow load. Roughly speaking, there are foundations for inserting tubes and poles, foundations with a flange for supports and beam layers, for example for carports and terraces, and foundations with a thread in the head plate as all-rounders for posts, fences and parasols. Larger construction projects require specialist planning.

Our conclusion

For a project like our tiny houses, this was exactly the right approach: fast, clean and without a concrete foundation in the garden.
