Why we want you to go outside more often

I’m writing this on the terrace in the evening. It’s warm, I have a blanket over my legs, and I’m lying on garden furniture that will last longer than I’ve been using it. And I find myself thinking: Why do we actually do this so rarely?

We spend the whole day indoors. Indoors at the office, indoors in the car, indoors in front of the TV in the evening. And then we have a terrace that we use maybe twenty evenings a year because it’s either too hot, too windy, too bright, or too cool.

That is exactly our calling. We make sure that those twenty evenings turn into a hundred.

Three generations, one theme

My grandfather founded the company in the early sixties. My dad, Peter, took it over. And in 2019, I took the helm and continue to run it today just as it is. Where we go from here, we'll see. We shall see.

What hasn’t changed in three generations: without our customers, we wouldn’t be where we are today. That is why service is our top priority, and why we treat you as equals—we look for a solution together, create a new space for relaxation, or simply provide shade, depending on what is needed.

What has changed is everything around us. In the past, I drove to every customer. Today, much of it happens online, and many products are shipped directly to you—which is faster. Where measurements need to be taken, we naturally still come by in person.

Why we are writing this down

In our industry, there are many companies that do good work but don't say a word about it. You call, someone comes, it gets installed, done. The knowledge stays in the installer's head.

I think that’s a shame. Because the questions are always the same, and the answers cost us nothing:

Which parasol fits a west-facing balcony? Why a parasol without a protective cover looks ten years old after only three. How much weight a cantilever parasol actually needs and when a ground anchor is better than a base plate. Why air conditioning in a classroom is the wrong solution if the window is standing in the unprotected southern sun. How to furnish, cover, and heat a hotel terrace so that no table stays empty, even when it rains.

We are writing that down here. Bit by bit, with no claim to completeness, but honestly—even when the answer is that you don't need to buy anything.

What we hope to gain from this

Honestly? That you buy from us. We are a business, not a club. It brings me incredible joy, but we have to earn a living, pay bills, and grow somehow.

And yet, it is important to me that we don't just do any job, but one with passion. That is why I took over the family business: because I wanted to preserve the tradition, and because I enjoy walking into our halls every day—the same halls where my grandfather used to produce. I have since rented out a portion of them because the company structure has changed and we ship much of our stock directly.

I have the same connection with my tenants as I do with you. And in the end, I like them all: the tenants, the regular customers, and you, who may have just stumbled upon this post and end up taking home a parasol or a garden accessory that makes a little bit of the outdoors more beautiful and long-lasting.

Sunny greetings from Wasserburg
