The square4sun cross is a motorized retractable shade sail with a rectangular cut. It is held by two masts, each with its own tension rope. The masts are positioned diagonally offset from each other, which keeps the fabric surface under stable tension and leaves the view from the terrace unobstructed. Because the tension ropes are relatively long, the masts can be placed at a significant distance from the sail: you can set them wherever the ground provides a solid foundation, rather than necessarily where the sail ends. This makes the cross the version with the greatest flexibility in terms of mast positioning and the obvious choice for large, contiguous shaded areas in the catering and hotel industries, as well as on spacious private terraces.

The sail is moved by a Somfy tubular motor located in the shaft. When extending, special aluminum profiles developed by Bahama arch the fabric in three dimensions; when retracting, they lie flat against the shaft again. The radio-controlled Sunea 60 io with a handheld transmitter comes as standard; alternatively, there is the hard-wired LT 60 Taurus for an on-site KNX control system. With the Somfy Tahoma central hub, the system can also be operated via smartphone. Wind sensors, sun sensors, and rain sensors are available as accessories; a wind sensor for a sail of this size is not a gimmick, but the simplest form of protection.

The fabric is WeatherMAX 80, a yarn-dyed and impregnated polyester fabric weighing approximately 270 g per square meter, which is breathable, highly water-repellent, and rated UPF 50+. The panels are adhesive-fixed before sewing and stitched with TENARA thread; the tension ropes are 4 mm thick. For the mast, you can choose between the round ID 110, with a 110 mm diameter, a height of 3,623 mm, and an 11-degree inclination, or the oval ID 175, measuring 75 to 105 by 175 mm with heights ranging from 3,000 to 4,500 mm, which can be set up between 0 and 90 degrees. Both are made of powder-coated aluminum in White Aluminum, similar to RAL 9006, or Anthracite, similar to RAL 7016, with a matte fine-structure finish.

47 dimensional combinations are available, ranging from an extension of 4.0 m by a width of 4.0 m up to the largest formats with an extension of 7.8 m by a width of 6.0 m, or an extension of 7.0 m by a width of 6.8 m. The largest standard size covers around 48 square meters. Intermediate sizes are possible and can be calculated upon request. Like every C4sun model, the cross is also available as a double-sail system; according to the manufacturer, this allows for coverage of areas of up to 106 square meters.

Every sail is covered with WeatherMAX 80. Four colors are standard and available at no extra charge: Silver 95, Oyster 11, Taupe 92, and Graphite 94. In addition, Bahama offers thirteen special colors: Beige 16, Sand 14, Toast 13, Chocolate 80, Pacific Blue 22, Royal 24, Captain Navy 25, Black 90, Moss 36, Forest Green 30, Yellow 40, White 10, and Light Charcoal 91. The 2026 price list charges a surcharge of 16 euros per square meter for these, with the area calculated as extension times width. Color representations on screens are non-binding. Part of C4sun's wind stability is the relief mechanism in the mast: internal dampers absorb wind pressure, while sliding pulleys guide the tension ropes quietly. The diagonally offset masts keep the fabric surface evenly under tension. To be honest: unlike for its large umbrellas, Bahama does not state a wind speed in kilometers per hour for the C4sun sails and does not provide a separate wind guarantee. The sail should be retracted during storms, heavy rain, or snowfall. For large areas and windy locations, Bahama recommends the Power Package with two synchronized motors; it is already included with some of the largest dimensions.

The statutory warranty and Bahama's terms and conditions apply; there is no separate wind guarantee for the sails as there is for the large umbrellas. Wear parts such as tension ropes, pulleys, and motors can be reordered through Bahama, and a replacement sail is manufactured specifically to your dimensions. Bahama offers cleaning, waterproofing, and maintenance as a service—according to the 2026 price list, this costs 260 euros net plus 34 euros per square meter, excluding disassembly and installation and requiring the customer to ship the sail without profiles. For the winter break, a protective cover for the shaft and sail made of WeatherMAX 80 in Graphite with Velcro closure is available for 320 euros net.

Bahama has been manufacturing in Reichshof in the Oberberg region since 1950; the C4sun sail line, launched in 2011, has been part of the company since 2018. The fabrics are produced in collaboration with one of the leading German sail manufacturers: the panels are cut using CNC laser cutting, precisely adhesive-fixed before sewing, and stitched with TENARA thread. Bahama handles the insertion of the profiles and the final assembly in-house by hand. Every system is built only after your order and to your specific measurements.

I primarily use the square4sun cross for cases where the mast cannot be positioned exactly where the sail ends. The two masts are offset diagonally and can be placed further away; the longer tension ropes bridge the gap. In practice, this means: you can plan around a garden bed, a step, or a finished paved edge instead of tearing them up.

One point that many only realize during installation: every mast requires a stable foundation, and that needs to be considered before terrace construction. It is better to ask us about it too early than too late.

The sailcloth of the square4sun cross is WeatherMAX 80, a yarn-dyed and impregnated polyester fabric, not acrylic. Usually, it is sufficient to brush off the extended sail while dry and remove leaves or pollen before retracting it. In case of heavier soiling, clean by hand using lukewarm water, mild soap, and a soft brush, rinse thoroughly, and let the sail dry completely while extended. Never retract it while damp, as this will lead to mildew stains.

High-pressure cleaners, scouring agents, solvents, and chlorine should not be used on the fabric. The high-pressure jet destroys the HydroMax finish and damages the seams, and it is precisely this impregnation that ensures water beads off instead of soaking in. After a few years, the effectiveness of the impregnation will diminish; this is normal. Bahama will then accept the sail for cleaning, re-impregnation, and maintenance, according to the 2026 price list for 260 euros net plus 34 euros per square meter, excluding disassembly and assembly. The sail is sent in for this purpose without the profiles.

The mast, shaft, and brackets are made of powder-coated aluminum or stainless steel. A damp cloth with clear water is sufficient; polish or scouring cream is not needed. Inspect the 4 mm thick tension ropes, the deflection pulleys, and the tightness of the fasteners once a year. Please do not lubricate or oil the deflection pulleys on your own, but contact us instead. In coastal areas and locations with salty air, Bahama offers the extra V4A protection with more corrosion-resistant components.

Over the winter, the sail should be rolled up clean and completely dry and kept retracted; the winter protective cover made of WeatherMAX 80 wraps around the shaft and sail with a Velcro fastener. Do not leave the sail extended if snow or ice is expected. Creases and fold marks in the fabric occur during rolling, are unavoidable with any retractable sail, and do not constitute a defect; they generally disappear once the fabric has been under tension for a longer period of time.

The square4sun cross is a custom-made product. It is manufactured only after you have placed your order, according to your specific measurements, at the Bahama factory in Reichshof. You should allow several weeks for this; we will provide you with the binding date in the order confirmation. Experience shows that it takes longer during the peak season between April and July, so ordering in the winter is more relaxed.

A C4sun is not self-assembled: installation is carried out by Bahama technicians or trained specialist retail partners, and we will coordinate the date with you and the technician. Shipping and installation costs are added to the price shown above. For sun sails, freight costs depend on the sail width and your postal code area and will be between 379 and 740 euros net in 2026; we charge for installation based on the effort involved. We will provide both to you before you place your order so that you know the total sum.

The price does not include the mast and the ground mounting. Depending on the surface, the mast is set on a concrete foundation, on a Krinner screw foundation, in a ground sleeve, or attached to the building using wall brackets and a mast console. The foundation itself and the 230-volt power connection must be provided by the client, as must a load-bearing surface. We will record exactly what is required in your specific case in the quote so that nothing is added later.

Delivery is made by a freight forwarder to the curb. The roller and sail are long and bulky, so access and a storage space should be clarified, and someone should be available to help with unloading. The easiest way is to link the delivery directly to the installation date, so the material is in good hands on that day anyway.

Because every sail is custom-made, there is no right of withdrawal. That is exactly why we take our time beforehand: we will go through measurements, mast position, color, drive, and mounting with you before the order goes into production.
