Jumbrella parasol

In the Bahama product range, the Jumbrella is positioned between the lightweight Pure and larger series such as Jumbrella XL, Largo, and Magnum. It is the ideal umbrella for the hospitality industry, hotels, public facilities, and large private terraces. With twenty-nine model sizes ranging from 4.5 to 36 square meters and side lengths from 1.5 to 6 meters, it covers almost every floor plan, whether round, square, or rectangular. The 4 × 4 m Jumbrella was awarded the iF Design Award 2018, the Red Dot Award 2018, and the German Design Award 2019.

Opening is performed via a maintenance-free servo mechanism: fold both tension levers upward, lift the ends of the spokes until the umbrella opens automatically, engage the spring clips, and pull the handle downward. Depending on the model, this is done in two or four stages, which noticeably saves effort. There are no loose ropes, cranks, or plugs. Each of the two tension levers contains a cylinder lock to prevent unauthorized opening, in addition to a lock permanently mounted on the ground fixture for theft protection.

The center pole, made of extruded, internally reinforced, and profiled aluminum, has a diameter of about 80 millimeters with a wall thickness of approximately 2.5 millimeters and is PES powder-coated and then heat-cured. Spokes and supports are hollow rectangular aluminum profiles made from a special alloy with no sharp edges; they are fastened with stainless steel axle bolts and spring cotters and are individually replaceable—no plastic parts are used here. Depending on the model, the canopy features eight, ten, or twelve spokes, supplemented by stabilizing support struts. Depending on the model, the clearance height is between 226 and 253 centimeters, and the umbrella weight is between 30 and 99 kilograms.

The standard canopy is made of betex 05, Bahama’s exclusive fabric: 100% polyester with a transparent coating on the top, approx. 200 grams per square meter, a water column of at least 1,000 millimeters, OEKO-TEX Standard 100 Class 1 certification, and is both replaceable and washable. The UV protection is UPF 50+, with the exception of the light "Snow 9577" shade. Twenty-eight colors are available to choose from. Upon request, three additional fabrics are available: solution-dyed branded acrylic fabric with approx. 300 grams per square meter, Precontraint 302 with approx. 480 grams per square meter (with welded segments and flame retardancy according to DIN 4102-B1), and swela elegance with approx. 310 grams per square meter, which, however, cannot be printed.

For the frame, you can choose between Traffic White RAL 9016 and Anthracite Grey RAL 7016, both with a fine-texture finish. Custom colors and unique surfaces, such as Golden Oak wood-look, concrete-look, or Corten steel-look, are also available as special orders. Sizes range from the narrow 3.0 × 1.5 m with 4.5 square meters, through standard dimensions like Ø 4.0 m, 4.0 × 4.0 m, or 5.0 × 3.0 m, up to Ø 7.0 m and 6.0 × 6.0 m, each with 36 square meters; the square 6.0 × 6.0 m model will be available for order starting April 1, 2026.

A valance is available for an additional charge, approximately 30 centimeters high, either straight or split, and can be printed upon request, for example with lettering. The honest disadvantage: clearance height and ground clearance are reduced by exactly these 30 centimeters. This is relevant for the 4.5 × 4.5 m model, which has 54 centimeters of ground clearance at the edge, but is negligible for the Ø 3.0 m model, which has 213 centimeters. The series is well-known for its range of accessories: textile gutter systems for connecting multiple umbrellas, side walls with or without windows, LED lighting, infrared heaters (1500 watts each), speakers, TV mounts, Wi-Fi, and USB charging ports.

Bahama provides specific wind stability values for each size. When stationarily anchored, the range extends from 102 kilometers per hour for the Ø 3.0 m and 3.0 × 3.0 m models down to 38 kilometers per hour for the Ø 7.0 m model; for mobile use, the range is 77 to 29 kilometers per hour. The larger the surface area, the lower the permissible wind speed: that is the price for 36 square meters of shade. The wind guarantee of up to 111 months applies—depending on the ground mounting and umbrella size—up to a maximum of wind force 10 (102 kilometers per hour), and for mobile operation, only when using the specified number of weights or paving slabs.

Wear parts remain replaceable. Spokes and supports are plug-in and available individually; the keder-guided canopy is removable and can be reordered as an original replacement cover in all four fabric types, with or without a valance. Bahama guarantees short delivery times for this series, rapid replacement shipments, and an exceptionally long supply of spare parts, while also offering cleaning, repair, canopy maintenance, and winter storage services. A lightweight protective cover made of tarpaulin mesh with lacing is included with every new umbrella.

Manufacturing takes place entirely in Reichshof, in the Oberberg region, where Bahama has been producing since 1950 and manufacturing almost all components in-house. Every Jumbrella is built individually to order. For this series, it is particularly worthwhile to have a conversation, as size, fabric, frame color, anchoring, and equipment are interdependent. The Jumbrella is the series I am asked about most often in Wasserburg, usually by restaurateurs who want to cover a terrace without having to commission a custom-made product. I like one inconspicuous detail about it: the spokes and supports are individually replaceable and are built entirely without plastic parts. If a spoke breaks after years, you replace it, not the parasol.

I predict two things: the permissible wind speed drops significantly for the very large diameters, to 38 kilometers per hour for the 7.0 m diameter version. And the ground mounting must be appropriate for the size – there is no way around that.

The standard covering for the Jumbrella is not an acrylic fabric, but rather the coated polyester fabric betex 05. Brushing it off while dry is usually sufficient. In case of heavier soiling, clean the fabric by hand using lukewarm water, mild soap, and a soft brush, rinse well, and let the umbrella dry while fully open. The membrane is single-piece, detachable, and washable; those who ordered the fabric with Precontraint 302 can also remove deposits of leaves, tree resin, or bird droppings more thoroughly themselves.

Please do not use high-pressure cleaners, solvents, or abrasive agents; these attack the coating and thus its water-repellent properties. Wipe down the column, spokes, and ground mount with clear water; the baked-on PES powder coating provides permanent protection for the aluminum. Never fold the fabric when damp and do not trap it between the spokes and supports when closing.

For winter storage, close the umbrella, pull the fabric triangles outward, wrap them spirally around the column, and apply the securing straps; please re-tighten the straps during long periods of closure. The lightweight protective cover made of tarpaulin mesh is included in the scope of delivery; for rectangular models, we recommend the robust version made of betex 05 with a telescopic pole. Electrical equipment such as radiant heaters remain in the closed umbrella; when the umbrella is removed, seal the ground sleeve with the winter cover cap.

Creases and fold lines in the fabric, lighter lines in areas under high tension, and slight friction marks where the fabric brushes against the frame are normal for any large umbrella. They affect only the appearance and do not constitute a defect.

Every Jumbrella is a custom-made product and is only built at the factory in Reichshof after your order is placed, in your chosen size, fabric, frame color, and with your selected equipment. Bahama specifies a production time of approximately three to six weeks for this series, or about seven to eight weeks for the special Golden Oak finish. Shipping time must be added to this.

We will provide you with a binding date in the order confirmation. April to July is peak season, so wait times are longer than in the winter months. Allow for more time if you choose a special color or finish for the frame, or if lighting, heaters, and other electrical equipment are added. For shipping alone, the manufacturer anticipates a minimum turnaround time of approximately two weeks.

The base mounting is not included in the umbrella price. You can choose from mobile options such as concrete stands, steel cassette frames for eight, twelve, or sixteen standard paving slabs, and steel plate stands, as well as stationary options like ground sleeves or tiltable ground mounts for concrete embedding. We will calculate together in advance which option suits your surface and umbrella size. Please note that the wind guarantee for mobile operation only applies when the specified number of plates or paving slabs are used, and that the paving slabs themselves are not included in the scope of delivery.

Delivery is made by freight forwarder to the curbside. The umbrella arrives in a rigid cardboard cylinder approximately 3.95 to 4.93 meters long and about 410 to 462 millimeters in diameter; the transport weight is between 50 and 124 kilograms, depending on the model. For the large models, you will need help with unloading and space for a package over five meters long. Please let us know in advance if the access road is narrow, located in a traffic-calmed zone or pedestrian area, or if a fixed delivery date is required so that we can coordinate this with the freight forwarder.

Because the umbrella is manufactured according to your specifications, the right of withdrawal is excluded for this custom-made product. Therefore, we take our time beforehand to discuss size, fabric, color, and anchoring to ensure the decision is firm before production begins.
