Largo parasol

The Largo is Bahama’s most technically sophisticated model. It opens upwards like a tulip – effectively turning the concept of a parasol on its head. Only the textile canopy and the cladding of the support column remain visible, as all other technical components are concealed within the parasol. Eight sizes cover areas from 42 to 140 square meters, in both round and square shapes. It is designed for projects where the parasol itself becomes an architectural element.

Opening and closing is done telescopically. Round models up to 1050 centimeters in diameter and square ones up to 800 x 800 centimeters operate via a hand crank and reduction gear, while larger versions use a 400-volt three-phase geared motor: 2 kilowatt connection rating, integrated brake with automatic spring-return manual release, motor protection via bimetallic switch, protection class IP66 depending on the model, and a 230-volt heating tape. Motorized operation takes about two minutes; in the event of a power failure, the parasol can be operated with the hand crank. Smaller models can optionally be motorized.

The support column consists of multi-chamber aluminum extrusion profiles, 220 x 10 millimeters on the outside and 130 x 6 millimeters on the inside. Depending on the model, 16 or 20 spokes support the membrane. The crown of the inner column works with 16 or 20 double-shear bearings and a total of 48 to 60 spherical plain bearings; a U-runner with a bearing ring prevents the fabric from bunching up. All aluminum parts are pickled, PES or RAL powder-coated and baked at approximately 190 degrees in the desired RAL color in silk gloss or fine structure, with metal parts made of V2A stainless steel.

The height when closed is between 600 and 980 centimeters depending on the model, and the parasol weight is between 1,000 and 1,850 kilograms. Available sizes are 750, 850, 1050, and 1250 centimeters in diameter (42, 54, 85, and 119 square meters) as well as 700 x 700, 800 x 800, 1000 x 1000, and 1200 x 1200 centimeters (47, 62, 96, and 140 square meters). The catalog does not provide specific clearance heights for this model; we will obtain them from Bahama for your desired size before you order.

The Largo is covered with Précontraint 302, a 550 dtex polyester fabric with PVC coating using SERGE FERRARI PRECONTRAINT technology: approx. 480 grams per square meter with a fabric thickness of 0.36 millimeters, welded segments making it completely waterproof, flame-retardant according to DIN 4102-B1, temperature-resistant from minus 30 to plus 70 degrees, and expressly suitable for keeping the parasol open permanently. The color chart includes 25 colors. Because the color choice for the fabric and the RAL tone of the frame belong together, we determine both in consultation using original samples rather than offering them as shop selections. There is no valance available for this model.

A detail you will only appreciate after years of use is located at the bottom of the fabric: a concealed zipper. This allows you to work inside the parasol when it is half-open, for example, to change one of the 16 lamps on the parasol column without having to remove the entire membrane. Lighting is optional, available with either 16 or 32 E27 LED bulbs at 3000 Kelvin or as indirect RGBW LED lighting with 16 or 20 strips, dimmable via remote control. The cables run inside the frame.

Bahama guarantees stability in winds up to 130 kilometers per hour. The Largo stands exclusively on a stationary, two-part steel console, hot-dip galvanized and PES or RAL powder-coated, which is cast into the foundation. It is more than just a mount: it routes the electrical connection into the parasol and simultaneously drains rainwater collected via the support column – it is intended to be connected to a vertical drainage system, such as a sewer line. A lockable, two-part metal cylinder on the lower membrane area protects the motor or crank mount from theft, unauthorized operation, and spray water.

All structural components are individually replaceable, the membrane can be cleaned or renewed, and Bahama Service handles assembly, membrane replacement, cleaning, and repair – worldwide and, if desired, with training for your staff on how to handle the parasol. For coastal locations, an "Extra-Protection V4A" version with stainless steel screws is available; it cannot be retrofitted.

Manufacturing is fully integrated in Reichshof in the Oberberg region, with each parasol made individually after your order. The Largo opens upwards like a tulip, and that is not just for looks: the entire mechanism is concealed within the canopy, with only the membrane and column casing remaining visible. I show it to customers who are already considering a permanent roof structure.

The detail that convinced me is located at the bottom of the fabric: a concealed zipper. You can use it when the canopy is half-open to access the interior and, for example, change a lamp without having to remove the entire membrane. Such small details make all the difference after ten years.

The cover is made of Précontraint 302, a PVC-coated polyester fabric with welded segments – not acrylic. It is dirt-repellent, waterproof, and designed for permanent deployment. Deposits of leaves, tree resin, bird droppings, exhaust fumes, or dust can be removed with lukewarm water, mild soap, and a soft brush, followed by a thorough rinse. At a height of 6 to nearly 10 meters when closed, this is a job for a lifting platform or the Bahama service team.

Wipe the support column, casing, and spokes with clear water; all aluminum parts are pickled, powder-coated, and fired at around 190 degrees. Please do not use high-pressure cleaners, scouring agents, solvents, or chlorine. Keep the lockable metal cylinder over the motor and crank mount closed, and regularly check that the drainage in the floor base is clear – this is where rainwater drains from the support column. Electrical work must be performed by a specialist company.

The Largo can remain open permanently. If you close it for the winter, secure it with the safety straps; for longer periods of storage, a robust protective cover made of high-quality fabric with lacing and a zipper is available. Allow a soaked canopy to dry completely while open. Dismantling and assembly, membrane replacement, cleaning, and maintenance are handled by Bahama technicians.

Creases and fold marks in the fabric are unavoidable with any tailored parasol and do not constitute a defect. The same applies to brightening at tightly stretched folds and localized friction marks caused by movement in the wind. These phenomena affect the appearance, not the function.

The Largo is a custom-made product in every size. It is fully manufactured to order in Reichshof, with your choice of fabric color from the current Précontraint 302 collection and your preferred RAL color for the frame in either a silk-gloss or fine-texture finish. There is no stock available. Bahama provides production times for the Largo strictly upon request. Please plan generously – for this model, the production time is only one part; the foundation, drainage, and electrical connection are the other.

We will provide a binding date with the order confirmation once production and installation have been scheduled. During the peak season from April to July, production is at high capacity, which leads to longer lead times. If you have a specific opening date in mind, please let us know early so that we can schedule the installation accordingly.

Ground mounting is not included in the price. The Largo is installed exclusively on a stationary, two-part steel console, which is set in concrete in the foundation and also serves to house the electrical connection and drain rainwater. This requires a connection to vertical drainage, such as the sewage system. These structural measures must be part of the planning phase before the ground surface is laid.

Because the Largo is a custom-made product weighing between 1,000 and 1,850 kilograms, it is shipped in specially manufactured transport packaging and erected using lifting equipment. Bahama recommends assembly and commissioning by its own technicians, who operate worldwide and can train your staff in handling if requested; the warranty and product liability are void in the event of damage caused by improper assembly. Shipping and assembly costs are not included in the displayed price and are added to the price of the parasol – they depend on the location, access, and installation requirements and will be agreed upon with you in advance.

Because every parasol is manufactured according to your specifications, the right of withdrawal is excluded for this custom-made product.
