Magnum parasol

The Magnum is Bahama’s premium model and covers the largest areas in the program: 37 to 140 square meters in eleven standard sizes, round or square. It is used on hotel terraces, in inner courtyards, at event venues, and anywhere where a permanent roof is not an option due to building regulations or design constraints. All components are designed for extreme loads. This is a construction project, not a patio umbrella – and we treat it as such.

Operation varies depending on the size: Up to a diameter of 1000 centimeters or 930 x 930 centimeters square, a hand crank with a reduction gear is used. Above that, a geared motor comes standard – a 400-volt three-phase motor with 0.75 kilowatts, bevel gear, corrosion protection, and heating tape, weighing approximately 20 kilograms. The smaller models can be motorized as an option. A cylinder lock on the crank receptacle and, if applicable, on the motor cover prevents unauthorized operation.

The central mast consists of an inner and an outer pole with a diameter of approximately 220 millimeters and a wall thickness of about 10 millimeters, extruded, internally reinforced, and powder-coated. 16 spokes support the membrane; for the 1200 x 1200 centimeter model, there are 20. All aluminum parts are pickled, powder-coated, and fired at approximately 190 degrees; bolts and screws are made of V2A stainless steel, and no plastic parts are used in the load-bearing structure. A torsion lock prevents the lifting tube from twisting during extreme gusts and maintains the membrane tension.

The clearance height ranges from 258 to 296 centimeters depending on the model, the ground clearance at the edge from 124 to 239 centimeters, and the height when open from 418 to 595 centimeters. The umbrella weight ranges from 800 kilograms for the Ø 700 cm model to 1,550 kilograms for the 1200 x 1200 cm model. The eleven sizes are Ø 700, Ø 800, Ø 900, Ø 1000, Ø 1100, and Ø 1200 centimeters as well as 700 x 700, 800 x 800, 930 x 930, 1000 x 1000, and 1200 x 1200 centimeters; the corners of the three largest squares are cut at 45-degree angles.

The Magnum is covered with Soltis 502 Proof, a polyester fabric with 1100 dtex and PVC coating using the SERGE FERRARI PRECONTRAINT technology: approximately 570 grams per square meter, UPF 50+, welded segments making it completely waterproof, flame-retardant according to DIN 4102-B1, dirt-repellent, and highly dimensionally stable. The color chart includes 35 colors, all at no extra charge – you select the fabric color as a variant directly in the shop. Because screen colors can be misleading, we are happy to send you original samples before you order. There is no valance available for this model.

The aluminum frame is supplied as standard in Traffic White RAL 9016 fine structure with white plastic parts. Anthracite Grey RAL 7016 with black plastic parts or any other RAL color comes at no extra charge, as do black plastic parts. For locations near the coast, an "Extra-Protection V4A" version is available with metal parts made of offshore-grade stainless steel; this variant cannot be retrofitted and must be ordered from the beginning.

Bahama guarantees structural stability up to 130 kilometers per hour for all eleven sizes. This requires the stationary foundation component: 83 x 83 x 100 centimeters or approximately 100 x 100 x 120 centimeters, weighing 130 to 240 kilograms depending on the model, with a cast-in base part and a galvanized upper frame. When the umbrella is dismantled, a checkered aluminum cover plate closes the opening. The same component accommodates the conduits for lighting, radiant heaters, and networking – these structural measures belong in the planning phase, not at the end.

Spokes and supports are individually replaceable, replacement membranes made of Soltis 502 Proof are available in all eleven sizes, and Bahama service handles cleaning, repairs, and installing new covers. Due to the weight of the umbrella, the Magnum is erected using a mobile crane; Bahama expressly recommends installation by their own trained technicians.

Production takes place entirely in Reichshof in the Oberbergisch district, with every umbrella manufactured individually after your order. I included the Magnum for areas where everything else is too small – courtyards, hotel terraces, event spaces. It can remain open in winds up to 130 km/h, while smaller umbrellas would have long since needed to be closed.

A point that is often overlooked during the planning phase: this umbrella is erected using a mobile crane, and the foundation component must be concreted in place before the surface is laid. Anyone who thinks about this only after the terrace is finished will end up doing the work twice. That is why I would rather talk to you about this one time too many than one time too few.

The covering consists of Precontraint 502 Satin, a PVC-coated polyester fabric with welded segments – not acrylic. The material is dirt-repellent and self-cleaning if leaves, tree resin, bird droppings, exhaust fumes, or dust have accumulated: clean with lukewarm water, mild soap, and a soft brush, then rinse thoroughly. At this height, this is a job for a lifting platform or for the Bahama service team.

Wipe the support column, spokes, and struts with clear water; all aluminum parts are pickled, powder-coated, and baked at approximately 190 degrees, requiring no maintenance products. Please do not use high-pressure cleaners, abrasive agents, solvents, or chlorine. Keep the crank receptacle or motor cover closed and locked, and have all electrical work performed exclusively by a specialist company.

The Magnum is designed for permanent opening and may remain open in wind speeds of up to 130 kilometers per hour. For extended periods of inactivity in winter, we nevertheless recommend keeping it closed and secured; a wet canopy should be left fully open to dry afterward. If the parasol is dismantled, the aluminum tread plate cover plate seals the foundation component flush. Dismantling, assembly, cleaning, maintenance, and storage are handled by the Bahama service team.

Creases and fold marks in the fabric are unavoidable with any tailored parasol and do not constitute a defect. The same applies to whitening at points of high tension and minor friction marks caused by movement in the wind. These phenomena affect the appearance, not the function.

The Magnum is a custom-made product in every size. It is built entirely in Reichshof following your order, using your choice of fabric color from the current Soltis-502-Proof chart and your preferred RAL tone for the frame. There is no stock available. Bahama explicitly provides production lead times for the Magnum upon request, as they depend on size, specifications, and installation requirements. Please plan accordingly – with an umbrella of this scale, the production time is only one factor; the foundation and site operations are the other.

We will provide you with a binding date in the order confirmation as soon as production and assembly are scheduled. During the peak season from April to July, production capacity is high, which will increase lead times. If you have a fixed opening date, please let us know well in advance.

Ground mounting is not included in the price. The Magnum must be installed exclusively on the stationary foundation component measuring 83 x 83 x 100 cm or approximately 100 x 100 x 120 cm, which is set in concrete and weighs between 130 and 240 kilograms depending on the model. Conduits for lighting, radiant heaters, and networking run through this same component. These structural measures must be part of the planning phase before the ground surface is laid.

Because the Magnum is a custom build with an umbrella weight of 800 to 1,550 kilograms, it is transported suspended in a custom-built steel or wooden frame and erected using a mobile crane. Bahama recommends assembly and commissioning by its own trained technicians; warranty and product liability are voided if damage occurs due to improper assembly. Shipping and assembly costs are not included in the displayed price and are additional to the price of the umbrella – they depend on location, access, and installation effort and will be coordinated with you in advance.

Because each umbrella is manufactured according to your specifications, the right of withdrawal is excluded for this custom-made product. That is precisely why we will go through everything with you in detail beforehand: area, foundation, crane access, electricity, fabric color, and RAL tone.
