Pure parasol

The Pure is the entry-level model in the Bahama range, yet it is a full-grown large umbrella. It is designed for patios where an umbrella is used daily: in the catering industry as well as in private gardens. There is a choice of twenty model sizes from 2.8 to 16 square meters, in round, square, and rectangular shapes. The design is deliberately understated; there are no visible attachments and no loose parts.

Opening and closing is done telescopically. You pull the spokes outward until the umbrella opens by itself, lift the tension handle, push the lifting ring downwards, and set the tensioner into the hook. The tensioning lever is located in the mast; there are no ropes or cranks. Because the mast extends during opening, the clearance height remains at 240 centimeters for all twenty sizes. A lock in the lifting ring to prevent unauthorized opening is optionally available.

The frame consists of a double-T mast and two adjacent smaller masts that visually unite at the bottom into a single stand column. The mast diameter is around 70 millimeters, with a wall thickness of about 3 millimeters. The spokes and struts are extruded aluminum hollow profiles with a wall thickness of around 2 millimeters and internal reinforcements; the joints are made of glass-fiber reinforced polyamide. Everything is PES powder-coated, making it resistant to impacts and scratches. Depending on the model, the roof has four, six, or eight spokes; the umbrella weights range between 24 and 39 kilograms.

The fabric is standard Bahama exclusive fabric betex 05: a 100 percent polyester fabric with a transparent coating on the top, around 200 grams per square meter, a water column of at least 1,000 millimeters, color fastness class 6 to 7, and OEKO-TEX 100 class 1 certification. UV protection is UPF 50+, with the exception of the light "Snow 9577" tone. Twenty-eight colors are available, from Snow 9577 to Wheat 9712 and Tomato 9671 to Raven 9853. On request, Bahama also supplies the membranes in dope-dyed branded acrylic fabric with around 300 grams per square meter and 24 standard colors.

Regarding the frame, the Pure has a fixed specification: it comes in Anthracite Grey RAL 7016 with a fine texture, the plastic parts also in anthracite. A different RAL color is only possible as a custom order. Sizes range from Ø 2.0 m with 2.8 square meters, through common dimensions such as 3.0 × 2.0 m, Ø 3.5 m, or 3.5 × 3.0 m, up to the 4.0 × 4.0 m with 16 square meters. The ground clearance at the edge of the umbrella decreases as expected: it is 193 centimeters for the Ø 2.0 m, and 109 centimeters for the 4.0 × 4.0 m.

A valance is available for an extra charge. This refers to the circumferential strip of fabric at the edge of the roof, hemmed and color-matched, around 30 centimeters high, optionally continuous or split. It creates a calmer appearance and offers space for lettering, but it costs exactly those 30 centimeters of ground clearance. Thus, the 4.0 × 4.0 m version's 109 centimeters becomes 79 centimeters, and you will definitely bump into that at the edge.

For wind stability, Bahama provides clear figures. When anchored stationarily, the maximum permissible wind speed with the umbrella open is between 90 kilometers per hour for the Ø 2.0 m and 65 kilometers per hour for the 4.0 × 4.0 m. With mobile, two-layer steel plate mounting, the figures are 68 to 49 kilometers per hour accordingly. The wind warranty of up to 111 months applies depending on the floor mounting and umbrella size up to a maximum wind force of 9, i.e., 90 kilometers per hour, exclusively for mobile operation with the two-layer steel plate stand with eight plates. When a storm is approaching, every umbrella must be closed and strapped.

Wear parts remain replaceable on the Pure. Spokes and struts can be plugged in individually via stainless steel bolts with spring cotters; the membrane is removable, washable, and can be reordered as an original replacement cover with or without a valance. Furthermore, Bahama offers cleaning, repair, and winter storage. A weather protection cover is not included with the Pure, but is available in a lightweight and a robust version.

Production takes place in Reichshof in the Oberbergisches Land region. Bahama has existed since 1950 and manufactures almost all components in-house; each umbrella is created individually to order. For me, the Pure is the series for everyone who wants a proper large parasol but doesn’t run a catering business. I was won over by a detail you can’t see in photos: the clearance height is 240 centimeters for all twenty sizes because the pole opens telescopically. This means you can walk upright even under the small 2.0 m diameter version.

I will tell you about one limitation right away: the fabric weighs around 200 grams per square meter, and in the event of persistent rain, I prefer to close the parasol rather than leave it open. Anyone needing permanent weather protection would be better served by a heavier series.

The cover of the Pure is not an acrylic fabric, but rather the coated polyester fabric betex 05. Dry brushing is usually sufficient. For heavier soiling, clean the fabric by hand using lukewarm water, mild soap, and a soft brush, rinse thoroughly, and allow the umbrella to dry while fully open. The membrane is one-piece, removable, and washable; the manufacturer offers a dedicated membrane service for thorough cleaning.

Please do not use high-pressure cleaners, solvents, or abrasive agents. They damage the coating and, consequently, its water-repellent properties. Wipe the frame, mast, and base mount with clear water; the baked-on PES powder coating provides permanent protection for the aluminum. Never fold the fabric while damp and do not store it pinched between spokes and supports.

For the winter, close the umbrella, pull the fabric triangles outward, wrap them spirally around the mast, and fasten the security straps; for long periods of storage, it is worth re-tightening the straps. We strongly recommend a weather protection cover, which is not included in the scope of delivery for the Pure. Those who remove the umbrella should seal the ground sleeve with the winter cover cap. Stored in a dry and frost-free location, the umbrella will best survive the winter.

Creases and fold marks in the fabric occur during fabrication and folding and are normal for any large umbrella. The same applies to light spots at highly tensioned areas and slight friction marks on the frame. These phenomena only affect the appearance and do not constitute a defect.

The Pure is a custom-made product. It is built at the factory in Reichshof only after your order is placed, in the size, color, and configuration you have chosen. Bahama specifies a production time of approximately three to four weeks for this model series, and about six weeks for custom colors or mast extensions. Shipping time must be added to this.

You will receive the binding delivery date with the order confirmation once the size, fabric, and ground mounting have been determined. High season is between April and July, during which lead times are longer than in the winter months. For the shipping process itself, the manufacturer expects a minimum turnaround time of about two weeks.

The ground mounting is not included in the umbrella price. Whether it is a steel plate stand, steel cassette frame, concrete stand, or a tiltable in-ground mount, this depends on your substrate and whether the umbrella needs to remain mobile. We will calculate the appropriate option for you before you place your order. Please keep in mind that the wind guarantee for mobile use is only valid with the two-layer steel plate stand with eight plates.

Delivery is made via freight forwarder to the curb. The umbrella arrives in a rigid cardboard cylinder approximately 4.2 to 4.6 meters long and about 415 to 450 millimeters in diameter; the packaging alone weighs around 30 kilograms, and the umbrella itself weighs between 24 and 39 kilograms, depending on the size. Plan for a second person to assist with unloading and let us know in advance if the access road is narrow or located in a pedestrian zone.

Because every umbrella is manufactured according to your specifications, the right of withdrawal is excluded for this custom-made product. All the more reason we prefer to discuss the size, color, and mounting in detail beforehand to ensure that the umbrella you receive is the one that truly fits.
