Square concrete base plate

Square base plate made of dark grey through-dyed concrete with adjustable feet and stainless steel sleeve for bolting on. Available in 35, 55, and 75 kg, as well as with sleeve diameters of 40, 50, 54, 62, or 64 mm; optional wheel set available (item no. BP900006).

Which plate is suitable for which parasol?

Weishäupl approves each base plate for specific parasol sizes and models. Look for your parasol in the following assignment table – the weight and sleeve diameter are derived from it.

The square concrete plate is not available for the Ø 500 Klassiker and 400 × 400 Klassiker – for these sizes, Weishäupl exclusively carries the round concrete plate weighing 120 kg (item no. BP164120).

Note regarding the Ø 400 Trend: Weishäupl documents list two different sleeve diameters for this size – the base plate overview specifies 62 mm, while the ground sleeve overview specifies 54 mm. We will clarify this value directly with the manufacturer before your order. Please send us a quick note before you place an order for this parasol size.

Note from Weishäupl: "We consider the base plate weight assigned to the parasols to be a recommendation. In locations prone to wind, as well as for parasols with a tilting mechanism, we recommend using the next larger base plate."

Wheel set: useful for weights of 55 kg and up, if you wish to adjust the parasol to follow the sun or store it away by yourself in autumn. It is mounted to the plate and remains permanently attached.

Plate or sleeve: The base plate is the right choice for terraces, wooden decks, balconies, and solid ground when no structural changes are to be made. On lawns or gravel, a placed plate will sink over time – a concreted-in ground sleeve is the more permanent solution there.

When a parasol breaks, it is almost never the parasol’s fault, but the base’s. A base that is too light is the most common reason why a good sunshade is ruined after two summers. That is why I always recommend choosing the larger weight, even if it sounds like overkill at first.

I added the square concrete slab to our range primarily for two reasons: the adjustable feet and the set of rollers. The adjustable feet compensate for slight unevenness—and hardly any terrace is truly level. The roller set is what makes the difference if you want to put the parasol away yourself in the autumn. You only drag 55 kg across the terrace with two people once; after that, the parasol stays out in the rain until the next summer.

I am a master roller shutter and sun protection mechatronics technician—still a rarity as a woman in this trade. Our family business in Wasserburg am Inn is now in its third generation. Call us before you order: with a photo of your terrace, I can tell you in five minutes whether a square or round base is a better fit.

Concrete is an outdoor material and requires little maintenance – but a few things are important to ensure the slab continues to look good for a long time:

• Cleaning: use clear water and a soft brush, or a mild soapy solution for heavier soiling. Do not point a high-pressure cleaner directly at the surface – it roughens the concrete and leaves light-colored spots.
• Do not use acidic agents (vinegar, lemon, grout cleaner). Concrete contains lime, and acid permanently attacks the dyed surface.
• Moss and green deposits in shaded areas are best removed mechanically with a brush.
• Frost protection: Please do not leave any water in the sleeve after removing the umbrella. If it freezes, it can burst the sleeve and the surrounding concrete. A lid or a piece of foil with a rubber band is sufficient.
• Rust prevention: The sleeve and screws are made of stainless steel. Small brown dots are surface rust from external sources – wipe them off with a damp cloth; do not use steel wool.
• Adjustable feet and caster set: Tighten the screws once a year and clear sand and gravel from the casters. Blocked casters are the most common reason why a slab ends up being pushed instead of rolled.
• Overwintering: The slab can remain outdoors. On delicate surfaces, it is better to place a mat underneath during the winter.

Minor signs of wear and a natural weather patina are part of concrete and do not constitute a defect.

Delivery time: approx. 1 week (ex works, shipping is free of charge for you).

Due to its weight, the base plate will be delivered by a freight carrier; delivery is to the curbside. Please plan the transport to the installation site yourself: a strong person can carry 35 kg, while 55 kg and 75 kg loads should be moved by two people or with a hand truck.

If you order the wheel set as well, the plate becomes child's play to move afterwards – however, it is assembled at the installation site, not at the curbside.

Please inspect the shipment upon delivery and have any visible transport damage noted directly on the bill of lading. This makes the handling process significantly easier for you.
