Round concrete base plate

Round base plate made of through-dyed, sanded grey concrete with a stainless steel sleeve for bolting on. Available in 35, 55, 75, and 120 kg versions as well as with a sleeve diameter of 40, 50, 54, 62, or 64 mm. Plates from 75 kg upwards have removable carrying handles.

Which plate is suitable for which parasol?

Weishäupl approves each base plate for specific parasol sizes and models. Find your parasol in the following chart – the weight and sleeve diameter are determined accordingly.

Note regarding the Ø 400 Trend: Weishäupl's documentation lists two different sleeve diameters for this size – the base plate overview states 62 mm, while the ground sleeve overview states 54 mm. We will clarify this value directly with the manufacturer before you place your order. Please send us a quick message before ordering for this parasol size.

Note from Weishäupl: "We consider the base plate weight assigned to the parasols a recommendation. In wind-exposed locations as well as for parasols with a tilting mechanism, we recommend using the next largest base plate."

Plate or ground sleeve: The base plate is the right choice for patios, wooden decks, balconies, and solid surfaces where no structural changes are to be made. On grass or gravel, a base plate will sink over time – a concreted-in ground sleeve is the more permanent solution there.

When an umbrella breaks, it’s almost never the umbrella’s fault. It’s the stand. A base that is too light is by far the most common reason why a good sun umbrella is ruined after two summers of use—a small gust of wind, the umbrella tips over, the ribs break. That is why I am reluctant to simply tell people what they want to hear when it comes to ballast.

I carry the round concrete slab because it has the most honest price-to-weight ratio in the entire range and is the only one that goes up to 120 kg. It is not the most beautiful piece on the terrace—but it does exactly what it is there for, and the sanded concrete actually gets better rather than worse over the years.

I am a master roller shutter and sun protection mechatronics technician, and our family business in Wasserburg am Inn is in its third generation. We don't have a showroom where you could take a look—instead, I take my time on the phone and look at your terrace via photo or video before you order.

Concrete is an outdoor material and requires little maintenance – but a few things are important to ensure the slab continues to look good for a long time:

• Cleaning: clear water and a soft brush; for heavier soiling, use a mild soapy solution. Do not use a high-pressure cleaner on the sanded surface – it strips away the fine texture and leaves behind light-colored spots.
• Do not use acidic agents (vinegar, lemon, grout cleaner). Concrete is calcareous; acid will permanently roughen it.
• Moss and green growth in shady areas are best removed mechanically with a brush. Use green growth removers sparingly and never on adjacent wooden decking.
• Frost protection: After removing the umbrella, please do not leave any water in the sleeve. If it freezes, it can crack the sleeve and the surrounding concrete. A simple lid or a piece of plastic wrap with a rubber band is sufficient.
• Rust prevention: The sleeve is made of stainless steel and does not rust. Fine brown dots are flash rust from external sources – simply wipe them off with a damp cloth; do not use steel wool.
• Overwintering: The slab can remain outside. On sensitive surfaces, it is better to place a mat underneath during the winter to prevent markings from forming.

Minor signs of wear and a natural weathering patina are part of the character of concrete and do not constitute a defect.

Delivery time: approx. 1 week (ex works, shipping is free for you).

Due to the weight, the base plate will be delivered by a freight forwarder; delivery is curbside only. Please plan the transport to the installation site yourself:

• 35 kg: can be carried by one strong person
• 55 and 75 kg: by two people or with a hand truck
• 120 kg: must be moved by two people and with a hand truck – the plate is 90 cm in diameter

Please check the shipment upon delivery and have any visible transport damage noted directly on the consignment note. This will make the process much easier for you.
