Square steel base plate

Square steel base plate, powder-coated in gray aluminum, with a stainless steel sleeve for bolting on. Only 1 cm installation height. Available in 35, 55, and 70 kg, as well as with a sleeve diameter of 40, 50, 54, 62, or 64 mm; optionally available with a fixed castor set (Art. No. BP900002) or swivel castor set (Art. No. BP900003).

Which base plate is suitable for which parasol?

Weishäupl approves each base plate for specific parasol sizes and models. Please look for your parasol in the following assignment – the weight and sleeve diameter are determined accordingly.

The steel plate is not available for the Ø 500 Classic and 400 × 400 Classic – for these sizes, Weishäupl exclusively offers the 120 kg round concrete base (Art. No. BP164120).

Note regarding the Ø 400 Trend: Weishäupl's documentation lists two different sleeve diameters for this size – the base plate overview states 62 mm, while the ground sleeve overview states 54 mm. We will clarify this value directly with the manufacturer before you place your order. Please send us a quick message before ordering for this parasol size.

Note from Weishäupl: "We consider the base plate weight assigned to the parasols to be a recommendation. In wind-prone locations, as well as for parasols with a tilting mechanism, we recommend using the next larger base plate."

Castor set: fixed for straight-line movement between two positions, swiveling for maneuvering in tight spaces and around corners.

Plan for space: The steel plate is the flattest, but also the largest base plate in the range. Please check in advance whether 65 × 65 to 85 × 85 cm of space is available at your location.

I recommend this plate for anyone who doesn't actually want to see a parasol stand at all. At a height of just one centimeter, it visually disappears completely – no step, no bulky block, no tripping hazard. You pay the price for this in terms of surface area: 75 × 75 or 85 × 85 cm takes up a lot of patio space. If you have limited space, you are better off with a compact granite or concrete slab.

What I appreciate about the steel plate: it is the only one that can be ordered with swivel casters. On a balcony or a narrow patio, where you have to maneuver the parasol around corners, that makes all the difference.

I will say one thing, even if it doesn't help sales: with 35 kg spread over a very large area, many people think that's hardly anything. A stand that is too light is the most common reason for broken parasols. Tell me your model and your location, and I will definitively tell you the required weight – our family business in Wasserburg am Inn has been doing this for three generations.

With the steel plate, everything depends on one thing: the powder coating. As long as it remains intact, no harm will come to the steel underneath.

• Cleaning: clear water, a soft cloth or sponge, and a mild soap solution if necessary. Do not use abrasive cleaners, scouring pads, or wire brushes.
• Rust prevention: Scratches and impacts to the coating are the only places where a steel plate can rust. Repair any damage promptly – suitable touch-up paintis available for this.
• When moving the plate, lift it; do not drag it over paving or gravel. This is exactly how scratches are caused, which lead to problems later on.
• Frost protection: After removing the umbrella, please do not leave any water in the sleeve. A lid or a piece of plastic film secured with a rubber band is sufficient.
• Avoid waterlogging: If the plate stands in a puddle or under damp leaves for an extended period, moisture will attack the edges. It is best to sweep away leaves in autumn.
• Caster set: tighten the screws and remove sand from the rollers once a year.

The stainless steel sleeve itself does not rust. Small brown spots on it are surface rust from external sources and can be easily wiped off.

The base plate is delivered by freight forwarder to the curb. Measuring 65 × 65 to 85 × 85 cm, it is bulkier than the other plates, but flat – it is easy to carry for two people. A strong person can manage 35 kg alone, but please handle 55 and 70 kg in pairs.

Be careful of the powder coating when carrying – do not drag it over pavement or gravel. Scratches in the paint are the only places where a steel plate can rust later.

Please check the shipment upon delivery and have any visible transport damage noted directly on the bill of lading.
