Awning with wall switch, remote control, or crank – which drive is the right one?

With a cassette awning, you decide how it is operated when placing your order. Retrofitting is only possible with significant effort – which is why a brief overview is worthwhile.

Standard motor with wall switch

The electric motor is housed invisibly within the roller tube. It is operated via a switch on the wall, which your electrician will install. This is the simplest and most robust solution if the awning is always operated from the same spot.

Radio-controlled motor with remote

With the radio-controlled motor (Somfy io), you can operate the awning with a remote control from anywhere on the terrace or in the living room. It requires no wall switch, only a power connection. Wind and sun sensors or app-based controls can be added later via the io system.

Important for anyone who wants lighting in their awning: Leiner's dimmable LED lighting is only available in combination with the io radio-controlled motor.

Crank

The crank operates entirely without electricity. However, there are two limitations: the maximum pitch is 35° instead of 40°, and for an extension of 350 cm, the crank is technically not possible.

Our recommendation

Anyone who uses their awning daily will not regret choosing the radio-controlled motor: you will extend and retract it more often, even if just for a moment when the wind picks up. This protects the fabric and the mechanism. The standard motor is a good choice if a switch is already in the right place. The crank is intended for small units without a power connection.
